About GrimparrotQ. What question would you add to the Attitudes system?A. "Where did you get your user name and/or avatar from and why?"See More Answers About This... Q. What is a feature you would like added to GuildCafe?A. "Its scary. I was thinking something like this would be cool, and there it was. Like your sucking the thoughts out of my brain. HONEY WHERES THE DARN TIN FOIL? I NEED A NEW HAT! umm what were we talking about?"See More Answers About This... Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember?A. "When a new couple of leaders in a guild I helped get started in SWG took the guild in a different direction that I cared I got into a real heated flamewar. One of those nasty ones where everyone is just taking it way too seriously. I feel kind of ridiculous about it now."See More Answers About This... Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum?A. "Not sure exactly although it involves liberal use of the phrase "yo yo yo" and "sup biatch" and other such pseudo urban crap."See More Answers About This... Q. Do your quiz results on GuildCafe reflect your personality, and if not, what did it get wrong?A. "Pretty much dead on."See More Answers About This... Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game?A. "Lots of possibilities here, but I'd say Majestic. It was a really cutting edge ARG well before its time. If it launched today I think it would be a lot more successful. Back then the monthly fee model was less accepted than today and people didn;t understand ARG's too well. People still dont now largely, but they are a lot more common.I had a heck of a lot of fun with it, thats for sure." See More Answers About This... Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be?A. "Lord British. Or the guy who thought up the Star Wars Galaxies New Game Experience, but only if I had a vat of tar and a sack of feathers along."See More Answers About This... Q. What are the specs on your gaming rig?A. "Copied from my Xfire profile:Manufacturer: Custom built Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM Hard Drive:120 GB Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS Monitor: 19" LCD Sound Card: SB X-Fi Audio Speakers/Headphones:Altec Lansing VS221 35 Watt Keyboard: Logitech G-15 Gaming Keyboard Mouse: Logitech G-5 Gaming Mouse Mouse Surface: My Fat Thigh Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.061219-0316)" See More Answers About This... Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like?A. "The original SWG with the bugs hammered out."See More Answers About This... Q. If you could cancel any online game, which would it be?A. "Star Wars Galaxies, so Lucas Arts would give the license to someone else. Like Blizzard or NCsoft."See More Answers About This... Q. Beside GuildCafe, what are your favorite websites?A. "FARK.com"See More Answers About This... Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose?A. "David Eddings Belgariad series. I'd love to see the city of Riva and the flaming sword of the riven king in a game someday."See More Answers About This... Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games?A. "LOTS. You name a MMO beta in the last 5 years I was probably there."See More Answers About This... Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games?A. "Warhammer 40k, AD&D, Battletech"See More Answers About This... Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games?A. "Can be good. I think the WOW model is pretty awesome really. Adds a lot to the game if you can make the interface what you want."See More Answers About This... Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers?A. "Not really."See More Answers About This... Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters?A. "I generally look at the builds made by people who are smarter than me and steal their work."See More Answers About This... Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like?A. "In fantasy games I tend toward dwarves for some reason."See More Answers About This... Q. What mods do you play with?A. "When I played world of warcraft I played with discord mods. Nothing now that Ive moved on to other games"See More Answers About This... Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game?A. "Hell no. My wife wont let me. :-)"See More Answers About This... Q. What do you love or hate about PVP?A. "Like killing people. Hate getting killed. Which is why I tend to not like PVP too much because theres lots of the latter, not so much of the former."See More Answers About This... Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game?A. "One of the more recent seems a little silly, but it was when I walked into Rivendell the first time on LOTRO. Walking over the hill, I got hit with a hope bonus which just makes everything light up at night, the stars get brighter, etc and the elven city laid out in the valley below, with the waterfall...I felt like I was there. I don't get that sense of wonder in games like I used to."See More Answers About This... Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games?A. "Like radiation it is profitable and safe in small doses. In large quantities it can liquefy otherwise intelligent peoples brains."See More Answers About This... Q. Why do you join guilds or clans?A. "To have someone to BS with as I grind. Misery loves company. Plus it would be a sin to deprive others of my rapier wit and sparkling personality."See More Answers About This... Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without?A. "My FANG gamepad."See More Answers About This... Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful?A. "Not as much as the ones I have in real life, but then again I actually have a real life. Not everyone is as blessed. I don't mean that in a mean way, I have it better than the majority of people I know in games and out."See More Answers About This... Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!)A. "I hate what its done to games. But I understand the demand and I'm all about the capitalistic instinct to make a buck."See More Answers About This... Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry?A. "I'm the store manager of a Game Crazy store so in a sense I do, although I think of "working in the industry" to be more the development end. It's cool being where I'm at though and lots of little perks. Like the free copy of Super Mario Strikers Charged Nintendo just sent me."See More Answers About This... Q. What sort of players annoy you the most?A. "1337 d00dz who got pwned by English class and think they are chillin in the hood yo, as they play a MMO on their parents thousand plus rig in the suburbs."See More Answers About This... Q. What music do you like to play games to?A. "I usually just stick with the soundtrack of the game"See More Answers About This... Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun?A. "Grind Wife faction."See More Answers About This... Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory?A. "Video game wise, my folks bought pong and it burned in the black in white tv in the basement horrifically. I feel old."See More Answers About This... Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex?A. "Been there, done that. Never do it for real long for some reason."See More Answers About This... Q. Grimparrot's blog:
Consoles make more sense now
I've always been a pretty die hard PC gamer. Until recently.
My computer is not crap. I figured it out, and over its lifetime from when I built it myself to now has run me about $2700. And countless hours hammering out errors, the occasional virus/spyware, minor things like the bimonthly format and reinstall I seem to have to go through to keep Windows working well. And on and on. That $500 console isn't looking as expensive now.
I'm now the manager of a Game Crazy store. I sell consoles and console games for a living. I'm starting to see the point.
For all practical purposes the graphics on a Xbox 360 or PS 3 are as good as anything I see on my computer. No the resolution isn't as high but the difference is made up for the fact that I put a game in the unit and it just plays. No configuration, no wondering if I will have acceptable frame rates, it just works.
As an adult with a family, and a job that takes 60 hours a week or so, my spare time isn't what it used to be.
As we see consoles start adding mouse and keyboard to the mix (Epic is adding mouse-keyboard functionality to unreal tournament for the PS3, and whenever someone has a good idea, Microsoft is fairly quick to copy it) the advantages of my PC are getting dimmer and dimmer. A lot of bad MMO launches would have been averted has the been designed for a console, as the performance would be a heck of a lot easier to run an effective QA process with.
Imagine MMOS that just WORKED.
I see this as the future.
And I for one welcome our new console overlords.
