Imported from My Gamer Blog
Well, it was bound to bounce badly, and to be honest it was foreseeable as far back as 1998. The boom-times, where money was plentiful and Dot-Coms roamed the earth. Then the bad times rolled, the Dot-Coms crashed, the retail market began to pic...

I’ve been a Beta Tester on the soon to be released Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, and I’m constantly being surprised by the amount of crap that keeps coming up about the game. It was supposed to be the “WoW Killer” and the “Next Generation of onlin...

Well, start of it anyway. Gotten a few more games for it, over the 4 that came with it, stuff that was… cheap to buy. Yes, I’m on a budget for gaming, but considering that the console wasn’t exactly cheap, you have to curb your enthusiasm, game ...

I’ll admit I’m a cheap git at times, trying to save a penny wherever I can. I haven’t owned a game’s console in over 14 years (Yup you read that right), and I’ve been excusively a PC gamer since then. I’ve got one hell of a collection of games, ...
Thursday, September 25, 2008 | happy | Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning | Mystical Awakening
I've been playing since the head-start, and I've finally cooled down a bit. My Ironbreaker is at a reasonable level, and the RvR and scenario's in Tier 3 are enough to keep the fun flowing.

I miss Tier 2's scenario's though, but the mark down system never worked in beta, and I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched it for now.

However, the game does have its down points for some. A few players who are new to RvR games are getting the shit beat out of them constantly, usually after doing some damn stupid things.

Witch Elves not using there stealth ability when facing odds of 18-1 (We where all on a keep take, and the WE just jumped right in, tried to pick on the Bright Wizard I was protecting). Tanks who forgo shields in favour of 2 Handed weapons as Keep defenders (and get wiped out in seconds).

But the biggest offenders are the Destruction players who try to assault a keep without a battering ram, but bring along a bolt thrower to break down the door. They'd get better results whipping out there testicles and beating the door down with them.

I'm on Karak Azgal, and I've come across so many WoW type players its just untrue. People who play stealth classes who think they should PWN every other class (As an Ironbreaker, I laugh at the tools who try to back-stab me). People who think there pets can do all the work for them. Healers who go offensive spec and NEVER heal others.

And these people wonder why they never get invited to groups or get repeatedly shat upon in open RvR. There idiots who get outperformed by people who are NEW to online gaming.

Honestly, despite the bugs that have crept back in, I'm still proud of the game, and I'm more than happy to carry on playing it in the coming months. I was worried that after release it would bomb badly, or that it would descend into childish squabbling. As I've said before, Warhammer was my last shot at MMO's, if it failed, I'd leave online gaming and just stick to single player games.

As it stands now, I'm hanging around for a while. I got idiots to kill, repeatedly, with giddy and childish glee :D

Armoured Core 4

"Really like the early game, on the Saturn (a mates console). Updated graphics and more open combat makes this a great game, for those who like fast paced missions and mecha based combat games."

Beneath a Steel Sky

"A classic adventure game, set in a future choked by radiation and pollution. Great settings, voice tallent and script. First game I ever played with a 'Pet' that helped you through the game."

Bioshock

"Nice game, great narrative, good quirks to keep it interesting, and of course, a 1950 retro look that realy defines the atmosphere of Rapture."

Blue Dragon

"Came with my Xbox 360. I actually like this game, although its early days with it yet. The kiddies as the main characters make it rather "Pokemon" though."

Cannon Fodder

"Way back when, if you wanted action, you had one of two options: Worms or Cannon Fodder. I had Cannon Fodder. An Awesome game, thats never been revisited. Closest thing these days is Team Fortress 2."

City of Heroes

"Nice game, nice idea with City of Villans, not enough healers. I was a healer, and i was swamped with work."

Characters:

Strasist, Level 20 Technology Dominator — Typical "My face got burned off by hero's" nutjob.

City of Heroes

"Playing as a villan, a Mastermind called Hunter-Kiler M03. So far i'm liking how the game has gone, with only a few small problems ecountered so far. PVP is solely for Tank, Scrapper, blaster types, the support types cnnot do enough damage or take "

Server: Union

Guild: Violators

Characters:

Strasist, Level 20 Technology Dominator — Typical "My face got burned off by hero's" nutjob.

Command and Conquer

"I have all of them bar the Red Alert 2 expansion. Loved them all, their great sci-fi games, and what made, and re-made what an RTS should be. Westwood studios may be gone, but their legacy remains. *Please note: C&C generals does not exist, its a l"

Dark Age of Camelot

"Was a good game, but had a terrible internet connection at the time, didn't get to play much."

Guild: Jormungandr

Characters:

Hagan, Level 40 Dwarf Healer —

Dawn of War

"Got it when it first came out, and have played it ever since. I love 40k, and so its no suprise i've enjoyed the relentless combat this game gives you. Haven't played much online, only against mates as we don't have space or time to setup the old t"

Desert Strike

"The classic vehicle shooter. Go to the gulf, blow shit up, take the oil, win. Came out over multiple formats, and was a hit for several years (partly due to the popularity of the Apachie Gunship)."

Diablo

"Another Blizzard classic, dungeon crawling, a decent enough leveling system, and of course, the combat system was great. The graphics are woefully dated now, but still well loved by those who remember it."

Diablo II

"Blizzards dungeon crawling game was back, and had multiplayer. Was great, but you realy needed broadband before the european servers. Still, a decent carry on from the origional."

Doom 3

"Been a huge fan since DOOM came out, and this was well worth the wait. From the early days of ID and shareware, the brand held its own against later games with better graphics. When DOOM 3 came out, "

Dungeon Keeper

"The origional 'Bad Guy with a Base of his own' game. Forerunner to 'Overlord' by about a decade, this Bullfrog classic could consume more free time than was strictly possible. Had Deeper Dungeons too."

Dungeons and Dragons Online

"Played a few classes in this. Nice gmae, but too little content. No open zones, little pvp, and everything set around missions.... just lost it appeal after a few weeks. Still, played a dwarf wizard, which everyone thought was hillarious at first"

Eve Online

"Mining and mining and mining and mining and courier mission and mining and mining and mining."

Characters & Screen Names: THE CLONE
Fallout 3

"Its back. It WILL be released, Failure by Bethesda is not an option. They screw it up, they will go to hell... its in the bible! I realy want to return to the post apocalyptic futre scape of Fallout... it was so much fun, and had its own warped "

FEAR

"A suprise game for me. With such a pompus name like F.E.A.R. I expected it to be a pile of overhyped crap. I would like to admit, I was wrong. Its got a story, its immesive, and it'll scare the crap out of you. Its well writen and well presented,"

Gears of War

"Came with my Xbox 360, liking it so far, but haven't gotten really into it."

Half-Life

"Ah, the beginning of the reinvention of FPS games, and sci-fi games. It brought us cutscenes you take part in, you create the problem that kicks off he game, and its pretty much a challenge from the word go. I loved it for the story, I needed it fo"

Half-Life 2

"The story continues, with improved graphics and gameplay. it did loose something of the origional, but it does stand out in its own right, and kept the hard narrative and immesion of the origional. Hard as nails, and just as much fun. Not as long "

Heavy Gear

"One of the games that started off the 'Customisable Mechs' craze. A good storyline let down by the ham acting and limited engine A.I.. Still a decent game, but could have been much better."

Heavy Gear 2

"Heavy Gear, Rebuilt completely from the ground up. Better A.I. and more fluid gameplay greatly improved over the firsts. Boosted graphics and an excellent storyline (Campaign) was icing on the cake."

Heroes of Might & Magic

"Number 5 (or V). Been playing it for a year, although I have played other in the series before, always fount them too constricting until number 5. Reinstalled it again recently, playing through."

Lands of Lore 3

"The end of an era, Westwoods final instalment on the classic series. Graphics where a little dated, but the gameplay was plentiful and the world expansive (Whole Game needed 4 CD'S!)."

Mech Commander

"Mechwarriors RTS counterpart (Computerised Battletech) was a great way to get your Mech on. Not that popular due to restrictive mod tools, a great game let down by its developers."

MechWarrior

"Had almost forgotten I had this game. Its an old game, but still a little known classic."

MechWarrior 2

"First game to use proper 3D that I had (Al the way back on the high end VESA card). Worked beutifully, and could switch back to classic "Wireframe" graphics in the form of enhanced imaging. First game to use the CLANS."

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries

"Adding the ability to select your own missions, hire team mates, mechs, spare equipment, salvaging, full voice talents, and full aerospace support. Mercenaries was an awesome game for the time."

Mechwarrior 3.

"The runt of the litter. Improvements in graphics and gaming was lacking, and poor redevelopment was evident from the start. Shame, as you could see where the work had been done, but it was let down."

Mechwarrior 4.

"Back on track, this game was an awesome refit from MW3. Better gameplay and graphics where supported by a decent story and menu system. Campaign was too short however, needed more to it however."

Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries

"Again, back on form. Sticking to what made the origional such a great game, they used the existing elements in MW4 to make this a worthy Merc sequel, keeping the multiple ending system for replay."

Neverwinter Nights (PC)

"The first fully 3D dungeons and Dragons game. Loved it, had one of every class (but not race). Decent story, and a good system to support it, was great. Although a little dated now, its still alot better than NWN2 because the graphics were balance"

Characters:

Fasin Balvard, — Dwarf Wizard, Chaostic Evil alignment. He had multiple personalities, and decked out like a fighter. Wizards duels became so much more intersting when I was playing the online dragonlance servers.

Neverwinter Nights II

"Improved graphics, and more options to customise, it is superior to the origional in all but one important way... it was to complex, and it requires multiple patches for it to run effectively online (plus one hell of a server and system to run it wel"

Oblivion

"Elder Scrolls remind me of the days of Lands of Lore, but in a more open enviroment. Oblivionis the latest, and visually the most stuning of all the Elder scrolls. A decent enough story and an open way of playing the game in a massive enviroment ha"

Characters:

Makesh, — My argonian. I've played his as a knight, spellsword, mage and custom adventurer. Sure he's a giant lizard, but water breathing and disease resistance make them the best race for hunting vampires

Shogun: Total War

"Genius game, with unique features and style, conquer feudal Japan using a mixture of Diplomacy and Brute force. Spawned numerous sequels set in different periods."

Sim City

"From Sim City to Spore! This is the classic Sim game (After Populous), and truly the game that defined just what it was to be a master of your domain. Until godzilla showed up."

Spore

"From what i've seen of this game, I realy want to try it out. Its a sim game, but from what I can tell, its like nothing i've ever played before... and thats good. I don't want to be playing clomes of other games."

StarCraft

"Aye, this and warcraft and warcraft 2 got me though college. Decent gameplay and a good enough storyline to keep you going."

Tribes 2

"Fast paced multiplayer game with a great selection of weapons and battlefields. Not as popular as Counter Strike due to the high leraning curve to the gameplay. Still a decent game."

Ultima Online

"The first MMO i got to play... sadley i got little out of it, as my phone line was abominable. Its a good system, and a good old play...or was. It got overpopulated, and alot of the learning curve was redicilous. A haven for knobheads by the time "

Vampire The Masquerade: Redemption

"A third person roleplay game with a twist. A great game with a decent enough multiplayer engine (although they could have made a better manual for it). Recommended if you can still play it."

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

"Looks good, gonna go Dwarf."

Characters & Screen Names: Undecided as of yet
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos

"Its a decent enough game, but a little restrictive. They would have been better off making an open battle map like DOW: Dark crusade, and having an expanded army builder for the campaign."

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

"Another remake of a classic. Bolder edgier and just a little warped, playing the Nazi-Necromancer card in the storytelling. Still, its a good old play in a WW2 enviroment were your NOT raping some war vets memories."

World of Warcraft

"Was a great game, then the idiots decended and ruined it."

Guild: Genetic Anomolies

Characters:

Elohssa, — Undead Warlock, kicked arse. Was playing for fun, not for accomplishments, got a good rep for being a god player and a 'tool hunter'. Barrens chat improved somewhat when I played.

X-COM Series (Any)

"Played X-Coms, Ufo: Enemy Unknown, Terror from the Deep and Apocolypse. Loved these games for the small squad combat element, the 3D map, the flying enemies, and massively switching tactical gameplay. Enemies that would (and usually did) shot the"

Z

"You want robots? You want war? You want comedy? Welcome to Z! Classic army game with its own unqiue twist, robots that are as flawed as humans.. maybe even more so. Classic movie sequences."

Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. If you want to waste your money, go for it. I do however get object to people selling xp (gaming for other people).

Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. The Barrens in WoW. March 2006. Yugos vs Myself.

"Warlocks are gay! You play a warlock, so your gay!" - Yugos
"Why?" - Me
"Your wearing a dress, so your gay."
"That just makes me transvestite. I'd only be gay if I were hot for you."
"What!"
"I'm hot for you, come to Elohssa you sexy orc you."
"Get away from me."
"Can I call you daddy?"
-Yugos has logged out-
"Victory"

This was the first in a long line of arguments with Yugos.

Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
A. 10-20

Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. The social aspect. Grouping, raiding etc is just a side aspect of joining for me. Q. What question would you add to the Attitudes system? (Answer!)

Q. Ninjas or pirates? (Answer!)
A. I prefer to rise above such debates

A. Mostly random to be honest. Either that or i'l just think of something relevant to the game (killed 9 times on my first day or playing EVE, irony that I was called THE CLONE).

Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. Its disgusting. If you have a penis, your charactr should reflect this! For gods sake why woud anyone WANT to play a female character? And don't give me "If i'm going to be looking at somones arse all day, it may as well be pleasing." I was using that excuse years ago, and I can firmly say its complete bull.

I usualy play casters, so i'm damn well gonna have a purple wand and hairy sack of magic. Besides, if you end up in a roleplay situation, you may as well stick to what you know. And if that means being complete sexist jerk, then so be it.

Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. No problem with it, just as long as theres some sort of channel or highlight for it in chat (had more than a few misunderstandings in the past*).

*= Well, if they will ole worlde speak, your bound to if your not expecting it.

Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
A. Male

Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)

Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)

Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
A. Nope. I'm an arsehole, and pretty much play myself when in game.

Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. Writing. Some origional peices, some fan fiction. Also, model building (Warhammer Empire army). Roleplay (When everyone has time) as well as a bit of web browsing.

Would do more, bit my mobility is somewhat restricted at present.

A. Using a Bora light fighter to wipe out three Heavy GSC players. Making an Evil Dwarf mage and making him a close combat monster (Suprise the hell out of other mages in dueals) in NWN online. Various arcts of anarchy on WoW (PvP server).

However, getting kicked from 3 Freelancer servers for extreme piracy is probobly top. Its not my fault people will fly around unarmed, or that the police battlecruisers have such huge gaps in their defences.
