Internet Generation
I was watching a pretty good show at the television the other day. It was about the Internet Generation. The kids who grew up with it, now they're at their teenage years and in a time of changing, the internet is in a constant explosion...

Now they got Youtube, Facebook and all that stuff everywhere they go. Got it at school, libraries, at home, friend's home, their cellphones, etc... It is now a common thing, which means that the revolution is over, it is not a phenomenon anymore, its just there.

I don't have any children yet, i'm in my mid twenties and I must say I'm starting to think about it. And I'm seeing mostly 2 types of parents. there's the one who is just totally overwhelmed by this new source of information, its far bigger than the tv revolution! So they get scared, they think of the sexual predators hidden there, they think of all the madness there kids are seeing. Honestly I don't understand half of these fears (dont get me wrong, I don't think sexual predators aren't a problem but please continue reading, you'll get my point on this). In this documentary, they talked about a study that was conducted about the behaviors and the ethic of the people on the web. They end up with this conclusion, if you have kids between 10 and 18 years old. You are more at risk of being the prey of a sexual predator. Don't forget, the kids usually don't get kidnapped to become the prey of a predator, they usually consent of seeing a person they don't know anything about it. For an ethic purpose here, I'll call it a voluntary unconsented meeting, because in younger age, some kids are not able to realise all the effects their behaviors.

As I said, in most case, they are less in danger than you, why? Because they've grown up with the web, the study showed that in many more cases, the kids were not even interested in talking with strangers, they were just closing up the chat window or anything like it. Why's that? Because all of their friends are online with them. They even realised that while taking care of they virtual social life, it was helping them on their own social life at school or just with their friends. Still there is a problem, the kids that have no friends, they'll try to find some on the web. The kids who are the prey of bullies are now virtual preys when they get home. While this is a tragic issue, I think it can be corrected if the parents know what their kids is doing on the net.

I'm not in favor of spying your own kid! All I say is this, when your kid got a problem, you get signs. And when you get signs, you have to verify and take measures. I won't talk too much about this because I think it is a personnal, and mostly because I'm just not insolent, trying to say that I know the asnwer.

All I say is that it is a matter that we think of, it is now in our lives and it's big that I'm not affraid to compare the internet to the wheel!

(oops didnt talked about the second type of parents, well, you probably get it, the one who cope with it and try to adjust themselves to this whole new reality, they're doing their best and I salute them, dont stop, your efforts won't be in vain!)
