Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. Yes and no. When I play online with friends, I feel like we're doing something together and it's fun. It doesn't beat actually hanging out in person, but it's fun. I also like getting to go on missions with new people because I'd never meet them in real life most likely. So in that sense, yes the relationships are meaningful. I also say no because, again, there is something to be said for face to face contact too. Not just characters or missions - but the people who play the characters. It's easy to neglect the real people who play the games. My character is not the sum of who I am (she's much meaner and kicks more butt than I do) so how meaningful is it really to get to form a "relationship" with my character who isn't really me?

Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be? (Answer!)
A. Whoever developed Guild Wars. It was the first online game I ever played - and it got me hooked on gaming in general. That and the cool people who made Katamari Damacy.

Q. Do you use voice chat? (Answer!)
A. No, I feel voice chat detracts from the game

Q. Ninjas or pirates? (Answer!)
A. Pirates

Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. The players that annoy me most are the ones who deliberately kill new - and therefore weaker - players. These are the same morons who are teabagging everyone in sight, killing people who have no way of defending themselves and generally being asshats. I have no patience for that. No one has ever done it to me personally - but when I hear about it, it always annoys me.

Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. Getting myself and another weaker player through a tough spot in a graveyard in Guild Wars. I think it was mostly luck and sheer perseverance that we didn't both die, but I got us through a mission in one piece. It was pretty awesome - and it was the first time my character was powerful enough to really kick some butt.

Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
A. I play a lot after work and on weekends. I'm in Vancouver - so Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) is my time zone - I can be found online at around 7 pm-ish.

Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
A. 10-20

Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. I think it's cool - within limits. So long as the player-made mods and addons aren't being used to ruin other people's gaming fun - I say go for it!

Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. Never been in one.

Q. What is a feature you would like added to GamerDNA? (Answer!)
A.

Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
A. Guild Wars - Beethoven (anything - the man is a bloody genius) and Bach's cello concertos. Brilliant! For car racing games - I like punk music. Rancid, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Lagwagon... For everything else, I listen to the music in the game or just put my i pod on shuffle.

Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. Fine by me so long as they don't start treating me like a girly girl. "Oh, you just sit back and file your nails. I'll kill the big bad monster." That annoys me. I'm perfectly capable of killing things thanks. ;)

Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
A. Online or off? I often play games with my fiancee - and we live together so I guess that's romantic... Online? No. I've flirted online - but not actually had an encounter. Besides, I always picture that like some awful RPG... DM: There is a Motel 6 just outside the woods... ME: Oh my god. I'm going home.

Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. None. I just make my characters reasonably good looking, get the best armour I can afford and go.

Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. I read - a lot. Sometimes 2 or 3 books a week. I also write, garden, take sword fighting lessons (Renaissance martial arts are fun!) and I like to cook food for other people.

Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
A. Yep. My fiancee and I met a few people from the Gamers With Jobs site - they were very cool and we spent a few hours just hanging out and drinking at a coffee shop.

Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. LOVE: It can be fun to square off against a friend and just go for it. HATE: People who are so emotionally caught up in their characters that when they die or get injured they get angry with you. Also, I hate people who pick on weaker characters whom they know could never defend themselves. Those people should be forced to give their best equipment to the people they aggravate.

Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. Yes. I'm not sure what I'd be good at since I have no programming experience. However, I am a technical writer, I also do useability stuff for websites and I draw awesome stick people! :D

Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A.

Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. A very little bit. It was fun though pointing out all the things that were good and bad about a game. The frustration level can get high though.

Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose? (Answer!)
A. Ender's Game - I loved that book. It would make a cool game (unless someone already did it of course). The Tudors - a MMORPG about Henry VII's court - that could be cool too.

Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. Playing Frogger on the Atari with my Dad. He never let me win - so when I kicked his butt, I was always very proud of myself! :D

Q. What are the specs on your gaming rig? (Answer!)
A.

Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. Probably something like Dungeon Explorer/ Animal Crossing/My Sims. I like games with exploring, finding stuff, quests and killing monsters and building things.

Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. In a standard pen and paper RPG - it's a necessity. You have to play within the boundaries of your character. It's more fun to just talk as your character than to say "If I were my character, I would..." You ARE your character - for a little while at least - may as well play it up and have fun with it. For online games - all people see is your character really. I'm pretty easy going and not generally considered a nasty person. But my character is a warrior - she's quite strong and kills monsters with a great deal of glee. You are forced to roleplay somewhat simply due to the character you create - and I think it's ok to maybe talk to other players in character as well - so long as the idiots who are mucking up their "thee's" and "thou's" and saying crap like "Great Odin's Raven!" stay out of it. That's just annoying.

Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. Mimble I got from something Harry's uncle says in the first Harry Potter book. The other gaming names I use are usually Scots Gaelic names or Irish names (stuff I can actually pronounce and spell correctly though).

Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. I haven't really played enough games to answer this.

Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
A. Female

Q. What question would you add to the Attitudes system? (Answer!)
A. What sex are you in real life - and which sex do you play most as a gamer and why?

Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
A. I have no idea. Is this something to do with that stupid "I am here to chew bubble gum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubble gum." thing?

Q. Beside GamerDNA, what are your favorite websites? (Answer!)
A. IMdB, xkcd, Sinfest, Gamers With Jobs, Looking For Group (awesome comic!), and a number of blogs too.

Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. I've created one that is a SouthPark me, and I use the angel I have on this site. I keep it pretty simple - and nothing that moves either. I find those distracting and annoying.

Q. If you could cancel any online game, which would it be? (Answer!)
A. Not sure. I suppose *someone* likes them.

Q. What mods do you play with? (Answer!)
A.

Q. Do your quiz results on GamerDNA reflect your personality, and if not, what did it get wrong? (Answer!)
A. I'm not sure I haven't taken the quiz yet.

Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. Because it's just not possible to do every mission alone.

Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without? (Answer!)
A. My i-pod. I listen to it a lot and it has movies on it.

Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. I think it's sort of silly - but if there is a market for it and people make honest transactions - well, why not? It's their money.
