Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A. Legend of the Five Rings is pretty much all I play anymore, but I do still enjoy a good DnD (whatever edition) bash once in a while.
Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
A. No, I feel voice chat detracts from the game
Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. Well, yes and know. I'm a marketing person by profession and I was an L5R archivist (unpaid) for a while. I wouldn't mind finding ways to advertise the things I enjoy.
Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. I don't know, but I find it disturbing that they're almost never taken.
Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. I have no problem with others doing it, but personally I would be uncomfortable playing a boy unless I had to. I don't even really like to do it in table top, but I have to because I gm.
Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. There is fun that doesn't in some way involve gaming? The devil you say.
Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
A. I think my music folders run a huge array or varieties but, generally speaking, I have NIN for every occassion.
Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. I had a beautiful two story villa in Ultima Online, right near the entrance to the Trinsic Passage. After they changed the housing code, you couldn't even have placed one there...and all the metals were right there on my mountian. Loved that house.
Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. I think strong friendships can be formed within games that can move into real life. I have mixed feelings about romantic entanglements online, I guess they work for some people. I have no judgements against the people who 'date' that way. Only an irl meeting can really make or break such a thing, and we all hear about people who found their spouces that way.
Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. The ones who sit back and wait to be rewarded for doing nothing. The world, even the virtual world, does not work that way.
Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. My game would be (and is, apparently) impossible to build. It would have a solid crafting system and a solid, customizable housing/construction system (Ultima Online, Horizons) with full customizable character creation (The sims II style would be amazing) and a widely dynamic character profession array (Rubies of Eventide and UO) with beautiful graphics (Worlds of Warcraft) and engaging storlines and history (Asheron's call II, Horizons and City of Heroes). It wouldn't have forced Grouping, but things would be a lot easier at high levels if you chose to do so (Rubies of Eventide). I'd want a PvP switch, not designated PvP areas. Clean and engaging combat with a static system, which almost every game has.
Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. I like pretty avatars with long hair...I even like to coordinate my armor or clothes. I figure if i'm going to be looking at it for hours on end, it should be nice.
Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. I beta tested UO 3D, I really haven't had the time to properly commit to serious beta testing since college, so I haven't gotten into anything else.
Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. I have no issue with it. It's my time, I invested it and there are other people who don't have the time to invest. There are things that i'd like to have, most of them frivilous, that I personally will never have time to obtain. I wouldn't mind paying someone who had the time, or was simply lucky enough, to obtain what I wanted/needed.
Q. What are the specs on your gaming rig? (Answer!)
A. Ha! Access denied, i'm outdated and you'd all laugh at me. :D
Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. I like them, I think a lot of them are helpful. Map overlays for item pick-ups have been especially helpful to me, as have more complex macro interfaces for crafting. As long as it doesn't actually 'hack' the game i'm fine with them.
Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. Socialization...I hate grouping, so guild chat is a good way to share information. Even then, I limit it.
A. No mods! I like everything nice and clean, though I have used them in the past mostly for resource tracking with crafters.
Q. Do your quiz results on GamerDNA reflect your personality, and if not, what did it get wrong? (Answer!)
A. Nope, they were absolutely spot on. Entrepid, anti-social filthy merchant :D
Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
A. Kicking ass and chewing, in that order. If you reverse the order, you get a b-movie plot.
Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without? (Answer!)
A. Does my car count? If it does, that. If not, my cell phone.
Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. I've done it, but i think it's awkward. I couldn't play NWNs much for that very reason. Pen and Paper, even text based, if great fun. I think its the lack of proper emotes and expressions.
Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. I use pencil and paper. I guess i'm old school.
Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
A. Not yet, but i'm thinking i'll eventually storm a convention somewhere.
Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. Oh god, the question, she hurts me. Every time I tell someone I still play UO they say "UO still exists?" Does that count?
Q. If you could cancel any online game, which would it be? (Answer!)
A. DnD online, but i'm sure it's doing that swiftly enough on its own.
Q. What is a feature you would like added to GamerDNA? (Answer!)
A. You know, i'm not really wanting for anything.
Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. Ugh....I don't, I have blocked them all out of my memory. None of them are too memorable, but the most annoying ones are about mechanics that could possibly be manipulated in some obscure fashion...
Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
A. I got a couple of Valentines day cards. I don't recall ever having sent one out myself.
Q. Beside GamerDNA, what are your favorite websites? (Answer!)
A. fiveringsonline.com
lowfierce.com/kazenoshiro
l5r.com
um...various webcomics. Megatokyo, in particular, I try to keep up with.
Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. I have no overwhelming need to urinate in someone's cheerios, nor have I any pressing need to prove my pixels are mightier then thine. I'd rather have a resource or exploration rush then a battle with another player.
Q. What question would you add to the Attitudes system? (Answer!)
A. Maybe favorite offline Videogame? I don't remember answering that one. Somebody has to love the Dragon Warrios and Dark Clouds of the console gameverse.
Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be? (Answer!)
Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose? (Answer!)
A. Dragonlance Saga, preferably in a way that didn't suck as much as previous attempts.
