Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A. D&D, risk, Go, Chess, Checkers
Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis
Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. Yes, depending on the situation
Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. POTBS combat meets EVE online; or maybe exactly what Beyond Protocol is, not much I disagree with there.
Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. Spreadsheets, character builders (if available), and old fashioned pen and paper.
Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. Raosk is a shortened from Ratatosk, a squirrel that lives in Yggdrasil, the world tree from Norse mythology, which I started using when I needed a second name or when my usual (Vigrid) was taken.
Vigrid is the plain where the battle of Ragnarok takes place in Norse mythology, also known as Vigrond.
Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. Either The Witcher of Psychonauts. Neither of them really got the sales they deserved for the quality.
Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. Anyone who acts like a complete idiot, followed closely by people who think they know how to play every class in a MMO and try to micromanage a group (could be considered a subset of the former).
Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. Community and access to higher level content. Not much to look forward to at the end-game without a guild usually, and solo grinding can get boring without guild chat. Access to content is secondary though, if you won't enjoy grouping with them no sense joining.
Q. What are the specs on your gaming rig? (Answer!)
A. Sad and insufficient, it was top nearly top of the line 2 and a half years ago. By the end of the year it will hopefully be:
Core i7 processor
4850X2 or the new 200 card
4 gigs RAM
2 x 1TB HD in raid 0
and whatever side parts seem best at the time
Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. Whatever I happen to make at the time
Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. Can't remeber a specific one, but it's almost guaranteed to be on the EVE forums.
Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. When it's outside the game rules it's a disaster for the game economy and a big reason why many games become harder to get into as time progresses. Unfortunately it's a cancer that will stay until people stop being lazy, which given human nature will be a while.
If it's within the game rules and the game is designed to incorporate it I'll avoid the game if the gains have any effect on gameplay. But if it's pure cosmetics I'll just ignore it.
Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. Far more enjoyable than PvE, but griefers quite often ruin the fun. People who don't understand what griefing is can be quite annoying as well.
Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. Doesn't matter so long as you don't try to claim that's who you are in real life. If no one asks it's better to leave it alone, but once someone there's no sense holding that much of a deception.
Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. The life-blood of a long lasting community. You may still be able to find a match in Halo four years from now, but there's not much of a connection between players. Communities like what exist around the elder scrolls games are rare without mods.
Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. Fights in the POTBS stress test; nothing beats getting jumped by four better equipped enemies and taking three down with you. Whenever moments like these occur they're great really, especially if a game isn't known for tactics (playing a hunter in WoW for instance, people get suprised when you think)
Also, a lot of cases back in pre-CU SWG come to mind, from hutning a krayt for three hours back in the seocnd month of release to building a giant killzone of three bases inside our player city.
Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
A. Whatever is included with the game usually. If a game has a low CPU cost I might throw itunes on random in the background from time to time.
Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. Don't try to force other people to roleplay, or to roleplay in your style, and don't purposely annoy roleplayers and everyone should be happy. Ideally keep off a RP server if you don't RP.
Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. Several games a year since late SWG beta
A. Yes, and I have a microphone
A. Too many to keep track
Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. Yes, most likely in a design role if I end up going through with it.
