Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
A. Yes, and I have a microphone
Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. I think it takes great advantage of the fact there are a lot of lazy people out there. You can't really blame them for selling things, though, as there's such a high demand from people who couldn't be arsed to go out and actually work for the things they want.
Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
A. Depends what I'm doing. For Arena and battlegrounds it's usually something dramatic and symphonic, like opera, though lately it's been "Ave Maria" from the Hitman soundtrack on repeat. For farming it's always something like Crystal Method or Marilyn Manson, something with energy. Instancing I don't usually have music on because we just tend to talk a lot over Vent.
Q. What is a feature you would like added to GamerDNA? (Answer!)
A. A site map to assist in making the pages a little more easy to navigate.
Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. WORLD OF WARCRAFT! Whoo, Test Realm 31 baby! A great experience, it was awesome to get in before the horde of retail gamers and really get a chance to experience the game bare bones and raaw.
Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. Strangely enough they're the little things. Boss kills are awesome but they don't always feel like personal achievements, just guild achievements. For me it's things like finding a guild to call home, hitting 60 and then 70 on my first character. More recently it would be getting my Netherwing Mount, or scoring exalted for the first time with a faction I never had before. Though I have to admit, our gulid first downing of Gruul's really has to hit the top of the list, that was an awesome moment for everyone.
Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. Why not? Some people like the aesthetics. Everyone likes to say "OMG GUYS CAN'T PLAY GIRLS" but it's just a matter of preference, doesn't make people perverted. Most of my characters are female, but I do have a few male characters, and I like them, they're fun.
Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad. You know they're good when Blizzard kind of copies the idea and implements it into the game. Imitation is the best form of flattery I suppose. I've had the pleasure of using some really well-made addons that served to enhance my gaming experience rather than make it easier - that's where I draw the line. Anything that does my job for me I dislike greatly. And player-made "god mods" are just disgusting - if you can't muster the talent to learn even the most basic of gaming skills, GTFO my server.
Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. Oh god. To be honest most of them I just sort of make up off the top of my head. I'm an addict for fantasy-based names - I never give my characters "real life" names unless they're human or it's for RP purposes. The only name that really comes close is Saelym, which obviously has a real world connotation but I live with it because I just rather like the name.
Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
A. TO KICK ASS AND CHEW BUBBLEGUM.
Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. I've never been a fan of the whole "I fell in love over the internet" kind of thing, but yet I've seen it happen to people I know and they've developed meaningful relationships, even gotten married, so I guess it depends on the person. I do believe you can forge friendships online that are just as meaningful as real life friendships - did we not have penpals at some point? Especially in online gaming, where everyone has at least the love of the game in common, it's easy to find someone to talk to and hang out with.
Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. My characters are always pale, always. Albino, if I can get my way. Lately I've moved to having them extremely pale with black hair.
Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. Hmm... nothing's coming to mind.
Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. A lot of writing. I'm into writing fantasy-based fiction, and occasionally cyberpunk or modern pseudo-religious fantasy.
Q. Beside GamerDNA, what are your favorite websites? (Answer!)
A. www.livejournal.com
www.modblog.bmezine.com
www.pholph.com
www.jaynaylor.com/betterdays
www.electric-manga.com
www.elsiehooper.com
www.levelmanga.com
www.questionablecontent.net
www.whiteninjacomics.com
www.rotten.com
Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A. I used to be a big D&D player, back about 10 years ago. Lately I'm into a loosely dice-based freestyle roleplay called Meteora.
Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
A. I'm as far West Coast Canada as you can get. My normal playtimes (normal being when I'm working) are 6:30-11:00 pm server, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose? (Answer!)
A. I would ADORE a Hellboy-based MMORPG. LOVE IT.
Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. BEGGERS AND GEAR WHORES. I DESPISE gear whores, with every fragment of my soul.
Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be? (Answer!)
A. I'd love to meet the Blizzard development crew.
Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. Roleplaying is cool. Not a lot of people seem to do it, even on roleplaying servers. I like to indulge myself once in a while but it seems that for every good roleplayer out there, there are ten who want to roleplay in Shakespearean english, or are so over-the-top dramatic that it makes my stomach turn.
Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. It would be a post-apocalyptic pseudo-religious neo-fantasy. Spellcasters along with snipers and demolitions experts, chip-enhanced humans along with human-creature hybrids.
A. Proximo - for Arena
MyRolePlay - for trying to track down the occasional decent roleplayer
KTM - everyone needs a good threat meter
Recount - to track my own DPS and healing output
VanasKoS - because there's always some idiot Alliance I want to kill on sight some day
Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. I like to be in the presence of like-minded people. I'm into PVE, so typically I'll try to find a PVE guild that suits my playtimes and playstyle (I'm not as hardcore as some).
Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without? (Answer!)
Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. Playing Pong in my grandmother's house.
Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. I would LOVE to work in the gaming industry, preferably as a writer or working directly with the customers in the form of an in-game customer service rep.
Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. I'll use the occasional talent calculator off the WoW website but other than that I kind of just wing it.
Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. I love the fact that it encourages people to learn their classes better. DPS and healing in a PVP environment is NOTHING like raiding. It's challenging, especially when you get into Arena, where your matchup isn't known until the doors open. I like the on-the-fly aspect of PVP, the suddenness of it.
