Age of Empires III (PC)

"A great RTS. Not my favorite RTS, but definitely one of the best."

Asheron's Call 2 Characters & Screen Names: some lizard guy with a magical drum
Auto Assault (PC)

"I played it in beta. It wasn't a bad game, I didn't end up buying it after release."

City of Heroes (PC)

"A breath of fresh air in MMOs. I really liked the free movement, the fast action, the initial customization, the skill augmentations and other skill choices, and the non-combat NPC animations. I think I played for about 3 months, then another month w"

Characters & Screen Names: Fesk, Oske, Revenot (magic brawler), Volcus (magic fire-blaster), and many others
Command and Conquer (PC)

"Red Alert was the best, but I also liked Generals. I played mostly solo."

Darkfall

"I'll probably get this one. MMO FPS-style action is a good thing."

Diablo II (PC)

"One of my favorite games of all time. I played it solo mostly or on a direct connection with a friend. Dynamics is what it's all about."

Characters & Screen Names: Oske (barbarian), Fesk (necromancer)... I loved all the classes, except maybe the assassin (combos aren't my style)
Dungeon Siege II (PC)

"Hokey storyline and it didn't live up to Diablo 2. Not a terrible game though."

Everquest (PC)

"My first MMO, starting a few months before Luclin's release. What I admire most about it, looking back, was the complete freedom to wander wherever I pleased and that there wasn't always segregation between high-level content and low-level content. I"

Server: Drinal

Characters & Screen Names: Hallower (dwarf cleric -- level 46), Fesk (don't remember), Oske (don't remember)
Everquest II (PC)

"I loved the cinematic feel of gameplay (I played in letterbox). If you're computer can run it on High graphics, it's a very different game than on Low or Medium."

Characters & Screen Names: Oske, Fesk, and many others
Halo 3 (X360)

"The first Halo is still the best in some ways, like having a more seamless gameplay and more open environments. But this one has a lot of replayability, too. I can't say I enjoy fragfests with strangers, but the co-op is a lot of fun."

Characters & Screen Names: hallower1980 (XBL tag)
Horizons

"My least favorite MMO. I quit pretty quickly."

Characters & Screen Names: a dragon, a demon, and something else
Lord of the Rings Online (PC)

"I played it a bit in beta. The art is impressive. The short in-camera custcenes were cool. But it's mostly a repeat of stale designs."

LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2

"Easily one of my favorite games of all time, and certainly my favorite game right now (even though I've been playing it for months). It has a lot of dynamics, depth, and some great co-op play in the "War of the Ring" mode."

Characters & Screen Names: Barosh
Neverwinter Nights (PC) (PC)

"Another of my favorite games of all time. There were a lot of dynamics, so there was incentive to replay it. I would love to see a lot of the class design features be mimicked by other games."

Characters & Screen Names: Oske (half-orc barbarian), Fesk (half-elf thief), Dumaine (human sorcerer) and others
Sacred (PC)

"The first Diablo-clone I played. It just didn't grab me like Diablo 2, but it wasn't a bad game."

Shadowbane (PC-MAC)

"I loved the runestone system. I still like the idea of RP-based PvP, though my experience was that this game's RvR fell into more of a Counterstrike mentality (kills were not really roleplay-based)."

Characters & Screen Names: Oske, Fesk (pale-skinned-race warlock)
Spore (PC-MAC)

"I can't wait! This is #1 on my must-have list."

Star Wars Galaxies (PC)

"This might be my favorite MMO experience. It had very RP-oriented gameplay. The world's major conflict (Rebels vs Empire) was seen and felt, and I felt like a part of it. It had NPCs acting apart from player actions (like NPC stormtroopers fighting N"

Characters & Screen Names: Dubaash (wookiee creature-handler/ranger), Fesk (zabrak rifleman)
Titan Quest (PC)

"It's hard to describe, but somehow this game fell short of Diablo 2's gameplay for me. Part of it was the ragdoll deaths that didn't seem to be in response to my attacks. The skills didn't grab me as much as D2's either."

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (PC)

"I followed this game's development closely for 2-3 years and played in the beta. Sigil had talked about a lot of really great ideas before release, but it ended up feeling like the same ol' same old."

World of Warcraft (PC-MAC)

"I liked that it was fast-paced and free-roaming. The art style was impressive without bogging down my computer. There are a number of good qualities, but, like others, it sticks to stale MMO designs."

Characters & Screen Names: Oske, Fesk, and others

Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
A. Bubblegum is the target, as your annoying neighbor unsuspectingly blows bubbles with it in his backyard. The tank gun's job is to pop the bubble, conveniently taking your neighbor's head off in the process.

Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. My first MMO character was a cleric, so Hallower seemed fitting. To hallow is to make holy. I've kept using Hallower as a forum name because I'm a Catholic, so making myself and the surrounding world holy is kinda the whole point of my life.</p><p >Oske and other names I use were names I made up. I like to play with language.

Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. See &lt;a href=&quot;<a href="http://hallower1980.blogspot.com&quot;&gt;my" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://hallower1980.blogspot.com&quot;&gt;my</a> blog&lt;/a&gt; </p><p >If you search for &quot;core philosophies&quot; there, you'll have a good idea of how I think games should be. The most important elements to me are consistently fresh gameplay (via dynamics), experiences unique to each player, and depth.

Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. Star Wars: Galaxies (the original version). It had some major faults, but it also took a number of steps in the right direction. There was a lot in that game that other MMOs should have followed.

Q. Ninjas or pirates? (Answer!)
A. Pirates

Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. Songwriting, blogging, laughing with friends out on a back porch or patio, reading articles, watching movies. Making music's my main hobby.

Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. The first is always a big, ugly brute... scars if possible, scowling and generally a nasty character.</p><p >Non-melee types are shadowy and mysterious, occasionally women (because if my character's going to wear a dress...err, i mean, robe...then it might as well be a woman).

Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
A. Central Time (U.S.)... otherwise known as Texas Time. ;)</p><p >I play mostly late at night, but it varies.

Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. Mario Bros. (NES) themesong... age 7.

Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
A. 5-10
