"Can't say I even remember much about this game. I played it very briefly a long time ago to see what it was like."

Archlord (PC)

"Poorly executed and not terribly fun at all."

Characters & Screen Names: Blackguard
Asheron's Call (PC)

"Fun but I didn't make it through its original growing pains (read: the Blood clan taking over the world)"

Server: Darktide

Asheron's Call 2

"Some of my greatest online memories came from AC2 with my allegiance. A fun game and I was sad to see it go."

Characters & Screen Names: Blackguard, Lug the Wrench
Auto Assault (PC)

"Ah, I hate seeing games die, even if they used the wrong payment model and were almost destined to fail. Sad days."

City of Heroes (PC)

"Fun for a short time, but it grew repetitive."

Characters & Screen Names: Digerati
City of Villains (PC)

"Like City of Heroes, only Villains! I gave it a run after having quit CoH well before CoV came out. Fun for a time, like the first, but it didn't capture me."

Dark Age of Camelot (PC)

"This was a fun game for a while, but the RvR imbalances drove me away."

Server: Iseult

Characters & Screen Names: Argyle, Drakahn, Blackguard, others
Dungeons and Dragons Online (PC)

"Too much grouping. I like to solo."

Earth and Beyond

"The space stuff was okay, the multiple experience concept was cool, but I could never identify with my avatar."

Entropia Universe (PC)

"An interesting concept and possible escape from the strangeness that is Second Life, but it wasn't easy to have fun in this game."

Eve Online (PC)

"I was never able to get into it for some reason."

Characters:

Marakhan, Amarr Industrialist — Started pretty recently. Not playing a lot now because of Halo 3 and Team Fortress 2, but I plan on playing more in the future.

Everquest (PC)

"One of the most fun online experiences ever. A wonderfully deep and involved world."

Server: Mithaniel Marr

Characters & Screen Names: Dyamirr, Daemirr, Guviena, many others...
Everquest II (PC)

"The game I worked on, therefore I had to love it. Any of my opinions here are invalid because it was my baby."

Server: Various

Characters & Screen Names: Blackguard, a bunch of others.
Final Fantasy XI Online (PC)

"Fun but certain classes were a huge pain to get groups with, which I happened to play. The inability to get groups drove me away (coupled with the inability to solo)."

Characters & Screen Names: Blackguard
Guild Wars (PC)

"Great fun for a while but I got pissed at the ascension (I think) quest to get to 20 because the nemesis was broken for rangers or mesmers or both (whatever I was)"

Characters & Screen Names: Blackguard
Horizons

"Don't get me started about the biggest failure of expectations ever..."

Characters & Screen Names: Dyamirr
Last Chaos

"Not a bad game, but very Eastern flavored and I'm more of a Westerner. I did have a cute wyvern pet though. ;)"

Lineage

"Too hardcore for me."

Lineage II (PC)

"An example of a game that I really wanted to get into for the PvP aspects, but found I had neither the time nor the motivation to advance much at all."

Lord of the Rings Online (PC)

"I was in a great guild, but the repetitive boar and bear killing destroyed me."

Meridian 59

"Ah, the old school. I didn't play this too much because I started playing The Realm, but it was actually pretty fun."

Pirates of the Burning Sea (PC)

"Well, it's pirates. That's the important piece. Unfortunately, everyone I know is on the same server but is not a Pirate (like me), and I haven't had the balls to reroll."

Server: Rackham

PlanetSide (PC)

"Totally awesome fun for a good while. Got bored of the repetition after a while and with imbalances."

Server: Konried

Guild: Pirate Ninjas

Characters & Screen Names: Wolfguard
Puzzle Pirates

"A really fun little game. I recommend everyone at least try it out."

Ragnarok Online (PC)

"Cute and fun but I got over it pretty quickly."

Realm Online

"Tons of fun... my first experience in the online space."

Second Life (PC)

"Ever since Snow Crash I've been obsessed with the idea of a virtual world. When I heard about Second Life for the first time, I got pretty excited. I tried it, I didn't like it at all. I tried it again, and it was full of sex and furries and random"

Shadowbane (PC-MAC)

"I was a nearly invincible force known only as Ishap of Iniquity. Give me a game I can exploit and I will, but so will everyone else, and that will often ruin the game."

Server: Dread

Guild: Iniquity

Characters:

Ishap, — Yep, that was me. The guy who could only be hit by 1-3 players on the server and who could switch to offensive mode and dish out 600 dmg per cast.

Star Wars Galaxies (PC)

"Unfortunately I only tried this post-NGE, so I'm not sure what it was like "back in the day.""

Sword of the New World: Granado Espada (PC)

"Good graphics, decent gameplay, and the advancement didn't make my brain die. For some reason, though, I found that I couldn't get into the multi-character party thing as much as just one."

Toontown Online

"I liked fishing and the other little games. It was a little too kid-focused for me."

Ultima Online (PC)

"One of my favorite experiences of all time until it got "carebear" (read: I was no longer the only one having fun)"

Server: Various

Characters:

Derkesthai, — Atlantic and Chesapeake, primarily.

Unknown

"The game by 38 Studios!"

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (PC)

"I don't have much to say about it, except that it has a lot of pieces that could make a great game, they just didn't quite come together."

World of Warcraft (PC-MAC)

"A very good game, but it never managed to fully capture me enough for me to cap out (though I've played many hours of it over the years)."

Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. I tend not to bother, but sometimes I'm in the mood. Generally, that means I'm being a silly pirate or something like that. To each his own, but players who roleplay must understand that most people don't and shouldn't get mad if others don't participate.

Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. In a traditional MMO that is based on achievement, I think it's a terrible idea. In other games that are built for it, I think it's a great idea.

Q. Beside GamerDNA, what are your favorite websites? (Answer!)
A. http://www.nerfbat.com/ of course.

Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. You'll just have to see what we do at 38 Studios.

Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. That Kung Fu/Karate game on the Commodore I think.

Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without? (Answer!)
A. TV to play my console on.

Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. They can be, but usually aren't.

Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
A. Completely randomly, generally late night on weeknights and during lunch at work.

Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. I already do.

Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be? (Answer!)
A. Sid Meier or Will Wright. Probably one of them, but I've met most of the others I've ever cared to.

Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. Blackguard came from the dictionary. Luckbad came from "Gar Luckbad," which is an anagram of Blackguard. All my others I tend to just come up with randomly.

Q. Do you use voice chat? (Answer!)
A. Yes, and I have a microphone

Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
A. Classical or Techno

Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. A ridiculous amount.

Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. Love 'em as long as players elect to see or use them. If they can be viewed in public gamespace without someone opting to see them, I think they suck (I consider simply playing a game like Second Life the act of opting in, so it's fine there).

Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose? (Answer!)
A. Ooo... Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion. Particularly Elric of Melnibone.

Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
A. Male

Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
A. No, unless you consider that the very nature of anyone meeting me is romantic, because I am so romantic. Yeah.

Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. Spreadsheets and Calculators usually. Character Builders if someone's made one. I also use real Paper and a Pencil. Crazy concept, huh?

Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. Probably the stuff I did in UO that I linked here: http://www.nerfbat.com/2007/09/26/happy-anniversary-ultima-online/

Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. For groups and to keep myself entertained. I like to solo mostly, but being in a guild means I can chat with a standardized group of friends and get help if I need it.

Q. What are the specs on your gaming rig? (Answer!)
A. 3.6GHz P4, 2GB RAM, ATI X1800XT Desktop
2.16GHz Pentium Core Duo, 2GB RAM, nVidia 7950 GTX Laptop

Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
A. Heck yeah. Lots of them. Fan Faires and Community Summits primarily, but also a couple of random get-togethers that were unrelated to either.

Q. Ninjas or pirates? (Answer!)
A. Pirate Ninjas.

Q. What mods do you play with? (Answer!)
A. An ever-changing set.

Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
A. There are no improper uses of either.

Q. Do your quiz results on GamerDNA reflect your personality, and if not, what did it get wrong? (Answer!)
A. Pretty much.

Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. Love: The challenge and prestige of being great at it. Hate: Leet PKs who are out to make the game suck.

Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
A. 0-20

Q. What is a feature you would like added to GamerDNA? (Answer!)
A. User Skins

Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. EverQuest II

Q. What question would you add to the Attitudes system? (Answer!)
A. How many massively multiplayer games do you play at once?

Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. Wow, a few. All of which I'd rather not list because they have to do with other people in the industry. ;)

Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. Human male, bald, light blue or grey eyes, and a dark goatee

Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A. D&D, Shadowrun, Vampire

Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. Don't care too much either way. But, it's nice to have something pretty to look at while you're playing. I tend to have 1 female avatar in each game, though it's never my primary.

Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. Ultimate Frisbee, Movies, Blog, Board Games, etc.

Q. If you could cancel any online game, which would it be? (Answer!)
A. None of them.

Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. The people who talk constantly in public channels and who misspell half of the words they use.
