It’s not perfect, but it’s good. Play it.
Yes, I really have nothing more to say. I’m about a third of the way through, and it’s possible that by the end I will have found something that changes my mind. But that’s doubtful.
Update: if you have an NVidia 8800 series video card, play in windowed mode [...]

Wipeout HD | Anticipating

"I've been anticipating this game since before the PS3 was announced. I am NOT addicted."

Fallout 3 (PC)

"As it turns out, it *is* Oblivion with guns, and with a lot of Fallout style. Also other influences: System Shock, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, etc. Well worth playing."

Depths of Peril

"Diablo-like, but with trading, diplomacy, faction war... and fairly addictive. Graphics remind me of NWN, good but dated. Gets a thumbs up from me for solid gameplay, but not revolutionary."

Two Worlds

"Just One Entry"

Assassin's Creed (PS3)

"It has a lot of style, but didn't hold my attention through to the second major assassination. Rent it."

Auto Assault (PC)

"It's unfinished. It's lame. It's as good as it gets, if a car with a roof mounted flame thrower is what you want. I'll always remember blowing buildings to bits just because I could. RIP."

Guild: Joiner

Baldur's Gate (PC)

"The walking! The walking! "You're funny lookin'.""

City of Heroes (PC)

"Great teams made this game great. I still pick up a time card once in a while."

Server: Virtue

Guild: Joiner

Characters:

Strawberry Daiquiri, Level 48 Technology Tanker — A daiquiri is rum and lime.

Vanilla Soy Latte, Magic Controller

City of Villains (PC)

"It's City of Heroes, but with some new maps, and lame teenagers who don't know how to play on a team."

Civilization IV (PC)

"Civilization rules. This is one game where I believe it's valid to say "if you don't like some aspect of the gameplay, download some mods". Also, any game that supports email-based head-to-head play is cool in my book."

Descent (MAC)

"This game supports every 3D gaming accessory ever made. And it rules."

Diablo II (PC)

"I'd probably still be addicted, if the online play wasn't so terminally haxxored. Maybe that's a good thing."

Dungeon Runners (PC)

"It was better before they made it into a potion quaff-fest. It's still pretty cool, but not cool enough to get my $$$."

Characters:

Bratwurst, — Look for me on world 7. I mean, unless I get tired of endlessly sucking down potions.

FEAR (PC)

"Well, it was sort of spooky, I guess. The combat didn't inspire me. The levels didn't inspire me. The plot didn't hold my attention. But still a pretty good game, I guess."

Grand Theft Auto IV (X360)

"Pretty much revives my love for the GTA series. The only bad part is... if having friends was this annoying in real life, I wouldn't have any."

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)

"The GTA radio stations aren't nearly as entertaining with real music from the 80s. God the 80s sucked. Vice city's streets are too narrow to get your groove on properly."

Guild Wars (PC)

"Wait, the entire world is an instance? Some days I wish I could do this IRL. "

Half-Life (PC)

"Classic. Just classic. Weird, but classic."

Half-Life 2 (PC)

"OK, I guess. Eagerly awaiting the zombie panic mod's release. Someday."

Haze

"It's not remotely a Halo clone. Not at all. Really. We promise. (Actually it's quite well done, but...)"

Hellgate: London (PC)

"This quote sums it up: 'You'll encounter the same zombie you see in the first zone throughout the entire game, including the very last levels. Same palette. I'm serious here.' --BryanM"

Characters:

Fluenza, — HCE is no place for a Blademaster. That's why he's not one!

Shawney, — US. Engineer. Any gun larger than your entire torso is a good gun.

Kingdom of Loathing

"I love the game, but for some reason don't find it addictive."

Legends of Future Past (MUD)

"I remember listening to like a White Zombie marathon on the radio and playing. This was just before all the radio stations became one big radio station. <sigh>"

Characters & Screen Names: Augustine
Neverwinter Nights (PC) (PC)

"It gets better as you get into it. If you like that kind of thing, it's great."

Portal (PC)

"WCC, I love you!"

Progress Quest

"The methadone of MMOs."

Guild: Muckcrafters

Characters & Screen Names: Rolf (Level 61 Oobag)
Puzzle Pirates

"I'm not quite sure this is how real pirates did it... but what do I know? I love it, but just don't have a place for puzzles in my life right now. Is that sad or what?"

Server: Viridian

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (PC)

"It's fairly good. High immersion factor. Sequel apparently in the works? Would make a decent MMO."

Sins of a Solar Empire (PC)

"I'd play this all the time if I didn't have six dozen other games to play all the time."

StarCraft 2 (PC-MAC)

"I don't usually like RTS or empire-building games, but it's Starcraft, man! Starcraft!"

Tabula Rasa (PC)

"Like a fine musical instrument, it gets better the more you play. Rock solid, high frame rates, this ain't no beta."

Characters:

Bret Talen, Level 17 Guardian — Bret has always loved creating things with his hands, and then causing them to violently self destruct by remote control. Now, he's putting those skills to work in the Army Reser... wait, that's not right!

Brock Talen, Soldier — Brock isn't really sure what he wants out of life, but he knows it includes sideburns and light beer.

Laverna Talen, Level 9 Guardian — Laverna's a guardian, or at least she's going to be, one day. She *will* kill you.

The Ship

"A neat concept. Yet another game on the "if I had more time to spend gaming, I'd play this" list."

World of Warcraft (PC-MAC)

"It's... really dull. Not bad, just dull."

Guild: pwnstoppable

Characters:

Aromatherapy, Level 13 Night Elf Druid — She's, like, into crystals and, like, magical stuff because, like, there are a lot of things we don't understand? So, if you can tap into that energy? You can really, like, you know? Be more powerful by focusing your energy through like crystals? WTB [Natural Hemp Cloth] PST?

Eched, Level 26 Gnome Warrior — Prefers hammers slightly larger than he is.

Glarp, Level 13 Human Mage — The standard Hollywood big, friendly guy of questionable sexual alignment. Is he gay? Nobody seems to know. More interested in making flashy clothes than in actually fighting anything. (But currently too low level to have really nice clothes yet.)

Shawney, Level 29 Night Elf Hunter — Shawney does not want to be your online girlfriend. Not even if it's just online and not IRL. Really.

Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. I like to play loud music in bands. I would says "sex" but it asked what I actually do, not what I like to do!

Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A. Um, I don't really play those, because most of my friends are not gamers. Which is odd, now that I think about it.

Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. Well, the female avatars are almost always more fun to stare at for hours and hours of grinding. Chicks are hot. But, I'll just play whatever the world seems to be short of, or just whatever I feel like at the time.

I maintain a strong separation between IC and OOC, so it's not a big deal really. Staying in character as a "girl" is easy. Staying in character as a "person who doesn't talk much" is hard!

Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
A. Not telling!

Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. Well, it's nice when players create addons, like the trade interfaces for WoW. As far as actual player-created content, it's largely uninteresting. More and more I see game developers using mods as an excuse to deliver lame content and inferior interfaces.

Q. Do you use voice chat? (Answer!)
A. Yes, but only when absolutely needed

Q. What is a feature you would like added to GamerDNA? (Answer!)
A. I would like for each user's page to show how many people are ignoring them.

Q. Ninjas or pirates? (Answer!)
A. Pirates

Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
A. Uh, yeah. I'm not saying it worked out or anything. But at least it turned out to be really a girl. And actually pretty hot. Which is nice.

Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. Plan?

Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. When it's bad, it's really bad.

The better the game's art, the harder it is to roleplay.

Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. Timex Sinclair? Possibly. Early arcade games, ala pac man.

Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. They vary. A lot. Why make them all the same?

Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. Doesn't bother me. I won't pay, though.

Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
A. 20-40

Q. What mods do you play with? (Answer!)
A. Favorite WoW mod: Annoying Buff Reminder.

Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. Sometimes

Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. Competing against other people.

Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without? (Answer!)
A. Stereo. Duh!

Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. Spin the bottle. The role playing opportunities are endless.

Q. Do your quiz results on GamerDNA reflect your personality, and if not, what did it get wrong? (Answer!)
A. I don't know. I guess it seemed pretty close. How can I possibly know myself well enough to answer this question?

Q. If you could cancel any online game, which would it be? (Answer!)
A. WoW. Grinding should be fun, too.

Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose? (Answer!)
A. I wouldn't. Cobranded games suck.

Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
A. Um, pretty much everything?

Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
A. Any time it's dark in Colorado, and all weekend. Or, not at all. Depends on the time of year and whether I'm in a gaming mood.

Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. Kill stealers and ninja looters.

Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
A. Yes. And none of your damn business.

Q. Beside GamerDNA, what are your favorite websites? (Answer!)
A. theregister.co.uk, exchristian.net

Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. Seriously, it's all a blur.

Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. I've been in one or two beta tests, but I'm not compulsive enough about leveling up to find bugs that others haven't reported thousands of times already.

Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. So that people will stop inviting me to join their guild or clan.

Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. My brain. Oh, and I steal from fantasy fiction.

Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. Why would I remember a flame war? I can just start a new one any time I want.

Q. What question would you add to the Attitudes system? (Answer!)
A. What do you like best about the (primary) game you're playing now?

Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. Um, I guess it's OK. I prefer to get paid.

Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be? (Answer!)
A. I'm not that kind of fan. I don't even know their names.

Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. Dull and derivative. I don't really have an inspiration as such, so I'd have to steal everybody else's ideas. And that'd be lame.
