Darkfall Online jacked by Dutch hacker.

A 21 year old Dutch hacker managed to hack onto the Aventurine servers and secure himself an early version of the much anticipated MMO Darkfall Online. According to Dutch media he hacked his way into secured email boxes and found himself a username and password which allowed him to gain acces to Aventurine servers... And download an early version of the game. Furthermore he posted his banner on the website promoting his gold farm. The hacker was identified by Dutch authorities and taken into custody. From the confiscated material there was no evidence that he had distributed this version on the internet. According to Aventurine this will not interfere with the progress of the game and will not cause any delay. Hey, at least now we know the game actually exists...

I'm guessing that security was rather not adequate or perhaps the hacker was very good. Seems like such intelligence/skills could be put to better use. Maybe they should offer him a job..like protecting the game from hackers

I concur with Dem. "At least now we know the game actually exists." Though I won't go so far as to thank the hacker for the FYI.

Lol, I remember that. Gabe Newell's computer was hacked via an emailed keylogger. He described the situation as, "Well this sucks."

Interesting, and not unprecedented. Remember what happened with Half-Life 2 around 2-3 years back? They claimed that the theft of their source code resulted in about a one-year delay...Although I sometimes wonder if that was just a rationale for their own internal problems.
