Was a great read, especially comparing it to past guilds I've been in. Great work!

An excellent guide with a lot of great information on running a successful and competitive guild.

I'll definitely be looking for more posts from Hades.

This man has been organizing and running guilds for well over a decade, and was putting out strategy articles as far back as Ultima Online. He knows his stuff.

From: Doc-LotD on 30-May-2007 at 01:55pm

This man knows what he's talking about! A strong guild can build up and turn to dust in under a year without the right ideas at the core of it. Heed Hades' advice if you want your guild to stand the test of time and the rigors of people's real life situations.

Good article, and have seen it in action. Once again good leader.

This is a base template that has stood the test of time. Creating a zergling guild in a single game does not count as success. The past, present and future is what keeps guilds like Lords of the Dead alive over 12+ years of online gaming. Hades has ruled well and continues to do so.

Another great article from Hades. With 12 years of experience he handles his guild/members amazingly well and motivates everyone involved to push forward for the benefit of the greater guild and not just the individual. If you want to be a successful guild or member read what he has to say and follow it.

Awesome article. My guild is four years old, but I think I fail at delegation and grooming junior officers. Then again I am having a hella time keeping a guild going at all with only three hours a day to play. When I once again have more time to devote to gaming and guild building, I promise to do better.

Thank you for your opinion Tjuhl, but apparently you don't have a lot of experience running a long standing guild. Any guild needs some basic level of organization to progress in PVE and PVP. This article tried to cover some of the basics, but again is geared towards competitive minded guilds.

If you are not a competitive PVE or PVP guild, then you're not the target audience.

From: Tjuhl on 23-May-2007 at 10:22am

hierarchy already sucks in RL so why bother with it in virtual worlds which are supposed to be FUN?

do it like this outdoor wear company... every member has the rank of an "associate" and certain responsibilities. if they fail to fulfill their responsibilities - kick 'em. if your guild grows larger than 125 people, make two out of it.

be democratic, open-minded - and give every minority at least the opportunity to be heared.

Good article! It has been put into practice and has worked for 12 years.

Needs to be require reading in future MMO's before you are even allowed to start a guild. Not really, but it is that good.

A great start to build upon.

Very good article, Hades knows what he is talking about. He has been around long enough to know how to maintain a strong guild.

A great article, i'd recommend following it. This article coming from the founder of a 12 year old guild is certainly a well thought out one. You really can't go wrong by following this.

Hades’ write-up is one of the most effective guild primers I’ve seen in a long time. For anyone looking to found a Tier 1 guild, or take their current guild to Tier 1 status, you can’t go wrong by following this. For players looking for a quality guild, use Hades’ points as a benchmark when rating potential guilds.

My comments are based on my experiences founding and leading Tier 1 PVP guilds as well as a being a designer creating online games.

Another article in a long history of excellent writings by Hades. I have read many articles over the past 8 years and all of them have been well thought out. Moreover, they are all great contributions to the community.

Anyone thinking of starting or improving their guild should read this as it is an excellent primer.

Hades exemplifies what is right with the direction of the mmo industry. His years of insight and many accomplishments speak volumes for him as a writer and as a person. This article touches on the fabric of what it means to be a guild and how to stand in a market that changes. Very well written!

This guide taught me alot being a junior leader within LotD's ranks and has even been quoted on game forums and other guild sites as being an excellent resource. Another great article to add to LotD's growing library.
