Secret lifestones in the tutorial...we at Esis didn't know about these.
Anyway back to topic. I am pretty sure that what we all remember liking about AC2 was not the game. The grind was long and boring. The PvP on Coldeve was about buffing like crazy then making the rounds with your group blasting everything in your path before they wore off... yes, if you met another group it got fun if you had a battle, but that got rarer and rarer.
I think we basically remember another time in the life of MMORPGs. When I played AC2, there was not a lot of choices and not a lot of people playing--compared to now. I think the Darktide folks remember if more fondly because of their politics. Their communities we're not artificial constructs of a game enforced faction system, they were an important part of the game.
MMORPGs have gone from something gamers played to mainstream. All new games are being developed for the mainstream. And now god forbid the console. MMORPG players used to people computer power users with the wherewithall to put together a power rig. Now people play WoW from Macs. And more and more games will design for, god forbid, the console...
And now I am going to move my rant to the Player Vox.

AC2 had awful game mechanics. The only thing that made it fun was Darktide politics (and that was a LOT of fun).
Major Max Damage was one of the stupidest ideas Citan ever came up with.
